Read, Write and Spell Program
Empowering Young Learners with Literacy Confidence
At Cognitive Development, our Read, Write and Spell (RWS) program is designed specifically to support children with learning difficulties by providing a structured and engaging approach to literacy. The program is divided into two progressive levels to ensure each child builds skills at a pace and depth suited to their individual needs.
Level 1: Building Strong Foundations
The Basic Level focuses on developing essential pre-literacy and early reading skills. Children learn through a structured phonics-based approach supported by multisensory activities. By the end of the level, learners will be able to:
- Recognise and produce letter sounds (phonemic awareness)
- Blend sounds to form simple words
- Break words into sounds for spelling
- Read high-frequency and CVC words confidently
- Write letters and short sentences with appropriate punctuation and spacing
- Engage with stories and games that reinforce literacy through fun and repetition
Ideal for: Early learners or children who are beginning to read or struggling with foundational reading and writing skills.
Level 2: Advancing Literacy Skills
The Intermediate Level builds on earlier skills and introduces more complex language structures. Learners will:
- Identify and use word families and syllables for better decoding
- Understand and apply prefixes and suffixes to extend vocabulary
- Read and spell longer and more complex words
- Construct full sentences and paragraphs with grammar and punctuation accuracy
- Improve reading fluency and comprehension, focusing on expression, speed, and understanding the 5Ws and 1H (who, what, when, where, why, how)
Ideal for: Learners who have completed the Basic Level or already have emerging reading and writing abilities.

What Makes Our Program Different?
Unlike many standard literacy programs used in mainstream settings, Cognitive Development’s Read, Write and Spell program is uniquely designed for children with learning difficulties or developmental delays. Here’s how we stand out:
Typical Literacy Programs
- Often follow a one-size-fits-all curriculum
- Focus heavily on academic outcomes
- Limited support for struggling learners
- Fast-paced and content-heavy
- Little multisensory engagement
- Teachers may not have specialised training
Cognitive Development’s RWS Program
- Customised and adaptive to each learner’s profile
- Emphasise both academic and functional literacy for real-life communication
- Targeted strategies for children with dyslexia, ADHD, language delays, and other learning needs
- Paced gradually with step-by-step reinforcement and plenty of revision
- Rich in hands-on, multisensory activities (games, stories, writing tools, etc.)
- All sessions are conducted by experienced educators trained in special education
We go beyond teaching children to read and spell—we teach them to understand, apply, and enjoy literacy.
Learning is Tailored, Fun, and Measurable
Regular assessments, observational feedback, and performance tracking ensure that every child’s growth is supported with care and precision.
